United Way of Central Florida is now home to the only licensed, certified Affordable Care Act Navigator in Polk County. Jane Coyle-Hart completed her Marketplace certification on October 8, 2013 and is now available to assist individuals and families in their search for health insurance in the new, federally created Marketplace.

The Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way of Central Florida will publish a book featuring tributes to women. The book, A Celebration of Women, will be published in April of 2014, and tributes can be purchased to honor any woman or group of women.

United Way of Central Florida announces the recipients of grants to fund the expansion or implementation of electronic medical records in local clinics. Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, Peace River Center, and Tri-County Human Services have received grants as part of a newly developed program implemented by United Way of Central Florida for 2013. The three grants total $71,000.

Family Fundamentals, United Way of Central Florida’s parent resource center, is hosting a free family event on Thursday, September 12, 4:30-6:30pm. The event will feature a visit from Curious George, a favorite character from children’s books.

United Way of Central Florida will kick off its 2013 campaign season with a free, outdoor concert headlined by local band, Clemons Road. The concert will take place on Thursday, September 19, 5:30 – 9pm, in Munn Park in Downtown Lakeland.

United Way of Central Florida and the Florida Prosperity Partnership are pleased to announce the hiring of Deborah Prescott as the new Prosperity Director for Polk County. As the Prosperity Director, Prescott will be responsible for planning and developing community tools such as local credit counseling, money coaching, budgeting, and savings services for low and moderate income workers.

United Way of Central Florida and the Florida Prosperity Partnership are currently seeking applications for a Prosperity Director, a new position created during the 2013-2014 grant allocation process at United Way of Central Florida.

United Way of Central Florida has completed its allocation process for the 2013-2014 fiscal year, and final program funding has been approved. Programs in Polk and Hardee counties will receive $5,692,762, with an additional $309,168 going to programs in Highlands County.

United Way of Central Florida announces a new request for proposals to fund the implementation or expansion of electronic medical records in qualified clinics in Polk and Hardee counties. Up to $70, 901 will be granted to one or more eligible facilities based on the proposal submitted during the RFP process.

United Way of Central Florida announces the 2013-2014 new board members, outgoing board members, and Officers and Executive Committee. Ten new members were added, and four members are outgoing. The slate of nominees was approved by the full Board of Directors at the regular June meeting, and go into effect on July 1, 2013.
