A former Publix Super Markets employee left more than $100,000 of her
family trust fund to the United Way of Central Florida. Mildred Jenkins
served as a Publix cashier in Lakeland for 28 years before retiring in
1982. Mrs. Jenkins divided the benefits from her trust fund among her
family and several area charities, including the United Way of Central
Florida which received $129,182.53.

A Winter Haven couple has donated $3,000 to a children’s literacy
project supported by the United Way of Central Florida. The check will
fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library – a program that mails
age-appropriate books to children each month. The $3,000 donation,
courtesy of Nat and Jane West, will provide free books for 100 Winter
Haven area children every month, for one year.
