Polk County Food Security Council

Vision: A hunger-free Polk County

Mission: Work to end hunger in Polk County by addressing equitable access to food; educating and empowering community members to make healthy food choices; and aligning private and charitable food programs with government food programs.

UWCF is involved in the Food Security Council because of our work creating Polk County’s 17 bi-weekly healthy food pantries in the George W. Jenkins End Hunger Initiative. Other members of the Council are Polk County Public Schools, BoCC Polk County, Florida Department of Health, Baycare Health, Mid-West Food Bank, Feeding Tampa Bay and Health Council of West Central Florida. The project is led by Polk Vision. The goal along with the mission and vision is to build collaboration and alignment between programs, focus on current and critical issues, impact policy and support communication within the community.
