Days of Caring has a new face. In years before, the traditional volunteer day was a time to
gather and help with painting and yard work, but now, Days of Caring is a call to action to
use volunteer time to contribute to community goals that improve lives. Publix Supermarkets,
Inc is using it's Days of Caring focus as a recruitment drive to identify Associates who
would mentor children and support their chances for graduation. Children from United Way
partner, Big Brothers Big Sisters, will be hosted at a November event at which Associates
will celebrate their year-round volunteeering and encourage others to mentor, too.
ArrMaz Custom Chemicals helped another United Way education partner, Explorations V Children's Museum, at the BOO Bash! Explorations V Children's Museum engages children by exciting their interests and encouraging exploration of their world. The BOO Bash! in October saw ArrMaz employees in costume, assisting with activities that promote early literacy for young children. SunTrust partnered with Frostproof Care Center, a leading United Way partner, to help families with budgeting, written financial goals, tp provide volunteer coaches that help as money mentors.
Auburn Alumni helped with an early literacy project at HELP of Fort Meade. Pepperidge Farm volunteers supported United Way's health initiative at VISTE. CF Industries helped at Hardee Help center, PESCO supported a playground build, Polk Clerk of Courts provided volunteers to sell sausages at the BE BOLD, campaign kick-off. And Publix retail (Lakeland stores) supported the health of disabled adults with a Saturday event at Sunrise Community Center.
There are more projects still available at www.uwcf.org/DaysOfCaring2013. Most dates and times are negotiable to fit your business schedule.
