One of the ways a family or individual can improve financial stability is through training
and certifications. When an individual who normally earns a living as a day laborer has OSHA
certification, he or she is eligible for an hourly pay increase because workplaces need
employees with safety certification. OSHA is the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the
goal of the law is to improve safety in the workplace, reducing job related illnesses,
injuries, and deaths.
Earning job credentials that can increase family income is just one way United Wayof Central Florida programs are working to serve the community at local centers. New services at the centers now include debt reduction planning, credit repair, foreclosure referrals, second chance banking, and matched-savings accounts. The NEXT STEPS program will match savings dollars up to $2,000 for nominated families who are working to increase family income through education or micro-business start up. Savings can also be used toward affordble home purchase.
OSHA certification classes are scheduled Oct 7th and 8th at Family Empowerment Program at Catholic Charities, Winter Haven. Sign-in here and we'll get more information to you.
