Win Brad Paisley Tickets!
United Way of Central Florida is trying to get Friends!
Individuals who sign-up at the United
Way Facebook page are entered in a contest to win 2 Brad Paisley tickets. If you're
already a Friend of United Way, you can still enter the drawing for the prize.
The 30 year old community organization says it has lots of friends, but it wants to find
more Facebook friends for it's Brad Paisley tickets.
United Way of Central Florida is has three current initiatives working to change lives in a
lasting way. The non-profit has initiatives in:

EDUCATION to help children start school ready to succeed. In 2011, 43% of enterring
kindergarten students started school testing "not fully ready." Activities are underway
to: link ReadingPals
with 500 kindergarten children to help them catch up in reading skills; to help
pre-schools with quality practices and teacher techniques; and to help families know
United Way and others have achieved a rating system for our pre-schools and parents should
look for a school rated 3 or better.

INCOME is a concern of United Way. 40% of Polk families headed by a single partner are in
poverty. Activities are underway to: connect family tax returns to savings accounts; to
engage families in home economic knowledge and accumulate emergency savings accounts; to
help families gain credentials that can help them earn higher incomes. GEDs, OSHA
certification, fork lift training and CNAs are a few certifications Unied Way is helping
families earn to gain more income.

HEALTH is increasingly considered to be determined by personal choices. United Way is
working to help community ogranizations help individuals improve body mass index, measure
sugar intake and control blood pressure. Avoiding excessive drinking, smoking and other
risky behavior are actions United Way is encouraging individuals take to improve health.
United Way of Central Florida helped almost 80,000 residents of central Florida in 2011.
It's currently starting it's annual fundraising drive with a goal of raising $8.8 million
dollars.
