Over the past three years, Polk County residents using the FamilyWize
discount prescription drug card, available through the United Way of
Central Florida’s 2-1-1 helpline, have saved $236,848 on prescription
drugs. The savings are based on how much the drugs would have cost had
the discount card users paid full retail price, according to a FamilyWize
official.
FamilyWize discount cards are primarily for people with no health insurance or prescription coverage. However, they can be used by everyone in our community who needs to buy medicine. There is absolutely no cost for the cards, and they are available to anyone who might benefit from them regardless of income.
2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember, toll-free phone number that connects callers with local community services, such as food, shelter, counseling, employment assistance, quality child care, volunteer opportunities and more. 2-1-1 provides information and referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Most pharmacies here and throughout the United States accept the FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards. They have no income requirements or registration forms, usage or age limits, and can be used immediately. Each card can be used repeatedly by any member of a family.
Cards are available at local pharmacies, human service agencies, or directly from United Way of Central Florida’s website at www.uwcf.org/help.
2-1-1 staff will also be distributing the cards at the “Back to School Blast” being held on August 6, 2011 from 10am – 2pm at the Lakeland Center.
