United Way of Central Florida’s Success by 6 is holding a book drive during the month of May to keep students’ minds activated over the long summer break.
On average, 80 percent of kids in low-income communities in the U.S. will lose up to three months of learning this summer. It is unlikely the children who fall behind in school and don’t have access to books over the summer will ever catch up.
That is why UWCF is collecting new and gently used books for all school ages to promote school readiness and literacy in Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties.
Books can be dropped off from May 1st to the 31st at UWCF’s office, located at 5605 Highway 98 S., Lakeland, and Family Fundamentals, at 1021 Lakeland Hill Blvd., Lakeland.
