Through the generosity of grants and sponsorships, United Way’s Success By 6 Parent Lending Libraries are now popping up in Highlands County.
Florida’s Natural Growers Foundation is the first sponsor to place the libraries in Highlands. Parents are able to find & sign-out books to read to their children, at no cost, at four childcare locations in the county.
Parent Lending Libraries, located in childcare centers and other child friendly sites, allow parents to conveniently borrow books to read with their children every day. This encourages the early literacy skills that prepare children to enter school ready to succeed.
The first Parent Lending Library was placed in 2004. There are now 121 Parent Lending Libraries in Polk, Hardee and Highlands counties. Parents and children borrow almost 40,000 books a year and almost 7000 kids have access each month!
