Karly's Glasses Get Her Caught-Up and Ready for School

Early intervention means 2-year-old Karly, of Hardee County, has preserved her sight and is now working to catch up to her age group and be ready for school.

Shortly after Karly was born, doctors thought she was blind from eyes that were congenitally "small" and that she should have her eyes removed and replaced with prosthetic glass eyes. But, after more intensive examination as a result of referral to United Way's Early Intervention Program with Light House for the Blind, it was discovered Karly was reacting to light!

Specialists at Light House worked with doctors who confirmed Karly did respond to light. She was fitted with special lenses and through the follow-up work of an Intervention Specialist from Light House, Karly has turned from a quiet, listless baby without sight; to a two year old: toddling, reaching, talking and playing. Karly's on pace to develop with her age group and be ready for school!
