Jeffrey is 47 years old and has a developmental disability called Cereme Anoxia, which causes him difficulty with speech, comprehension, and balance. Jeffrey lives with his retired parents in Sebring and they turned to the United Way program of Horse Therapy at Heartland Horses & Handicapped as an additional way to engage Jeffrey to develop socially.
For two years, Jeffrey has attended sessions twice a week. He has been able to improve his coordination, strength, and balance through various activities on the horse. Jeffrey is more communicative and has developed positive socialization skills. The Heartland Horses & Handicapped program is improving Jeffrey's health and contributing to a United Way goal to prevent avoidable medical interventions for individuals.
