The Parent Lending Library initiative is nearing the quarter million milestone in the number of books that have been borrowed to be read to children! The first United Way Success By 6 Parent Lending Library was established in 2004, as a tool to make it easier for parents to take a book home for one-on-one reading with their children.
Now, almost 250,000 books have been taken home for children to enjoy with their parent, while increasing their school readiness skills.
There are now Parent Lending Libraries at 120 child care centers throughout Polk and Hardee counties. When Dad and Mom are picking up the kids, the library kiosk is right by the door, to make it easy to take a book home to read. You're changing Polk County and our community's future when you support United Way. Together, we're making sure more children are ready to succeed when they start school.
